Greetings!

We have a busy weekend here at the Historic Haven.

On Friday night starting at 5pm, we have a Frederick magazine coming in to do an article on the Historic Haven. So come on in, get your photo taken perhaps, and hang out! We will have games set up, movies playing, and knights in armor.

Saturday, from 1pm till 8pm – we have a selection of regional artists showcasing and selling their work. From leather and metal crafts, to jewelery and clothing, it will be a great time to buy a Christmas gift, see what is out there, and support a local merchant!

Sunday we have a brewing workshop on Apple Cider starting at 11am. This crisp and sweet apple cider with autumn notes and a bubbly finish is a fun fast gift for yourself or a friend.

Haven Holiday Greetings!

Tree Cutting 2010

We will be having a holiday filled weekend at the Historic Haven.

On Thursday, starting at 11, we will be having Orphan Thanksgiving! A day of feasting, and falling asleep to holiday movies.

On Saturday, we have an all day Boondocks Marathon starting at 10am. Come in, watch and laugh with us.

Saturday at 1pm, we will be leaving the Haven, and going to search, hunt, and then cut down this years Christmas Tree! Join us once again for the Haven tradition, then come by on Sunday afternoon to see the Haven decked out for the Holidays.

Greetings to the Havenites!

We are now the proud owners of a new MIG, a class will be taught on the 20^th for those who want to use it in the shop at 2 and again at 4. Learn how to weld metal to metal!

The new HDTV is loved by all and is getting great use. We have added Worms 2, Contra, and Red Dead Redemption to the games library. We had an unofficial Halo 2 tournament on Sunday and it was amazingly crisp and clear.

Back room is coming along well, the new sorting system has been tested out, and is working. Thanks everyone for the help!

We are reviewing the logos and will post a poll for your thoughts next week.

We are looking for someone to take charge of the board game night, this is a great first step into becoming a Haven Helper.

Tonight there is a lecture starting at 7:00 on The Camino, its Legends and Lore by Steve Vandevander. We can not recommend his lectures highly enough – come learn some medieval history!

Thursday is the first weeks end of the Malifaux campaign. The new Malifaux Haven page can be found at http://historichaven.com/Malafauxwiki/ . There you can keep an eye on standing and rules updates!

This weekend is busy, we will be having an outdoor grill/beer/and bardic with the hookah on Friday. Bring a brew, sit and tell/listen to songs and stories under the stars. Starts at 8:30pm.

The Hiking Through History hike will be starting on Friday, and ending Sunday. We have many folk going, and if you want to be included zip us an e-mail at Hiking@historichaven.com so we can make sure you have van/camping gear.

Historic Haven Weekly Update.

Last Thursday, our projector blew up. This was to be expected, it had given 3 years of hard hard service, and had fought the good fight. We posted up that it was dead, and we would be replacing it over the next few weeks, and it was suggested that we post a digital fundraiser. Which was good because we were looking at which classes to cancel, projects to postpone so we could cover the cost of replacement.

Andrew Welsh and Gabe DiGenarro suggest we look into 60 inch HDTVs, and after some searching found they were price comparable with our budget. Glancing back at the digital fundraiser we found out we had raised over $1000.00! in just 6 hours. Go Havenites! So Saturday morning after a quick run out, we picked up the new HDTV and installed it.

WOW. It looks amazing. The addition of some HDMI cables and things have never looked so good.

SO to all our members who tossed in for a new and better AV room, come on by and take a gander. A special thanks goes to Brian Strenko, who tossed in over half the funds for this new system.

This weekend we have a T-Tunic class on Saturday (sign up by Friday noon), and a class on starting fires the medieval way on Sunday afternoon. Come play with some fire, and have fun.

Malifaux Campaign starts on Thursday. We have 6 players, and room for 6 more, so come in and sign up today, assuming of course you have the stones to take on everyone else.

There is an SCA Demo on Saturday from 1 till 10pm for those who are interested in the SCA and medieval life. Let Gene or Steve know you want an invite and they will give you directions to the event.

Speaking of Saturday, there is a 1pm M:TG meetup happening of those who want to dust off a deck and get a game on.

So we are back after many requests! The Haven weekly e-mail and member of the week will be posting starting today. Keep an eye on the website and facebook for upto the minute updates!

Erins Pattern Welded Knife

Haven Logo Contest: Alright artists, we have decided we need a logo that encompass the arts, hamming, and community aspects of The Historic Haven. Persons who work we chose will receive a free months membership and full credit.

Malafuax Demo and Campaign: We will be hosting a demo from 1pm till 2pm on Saturday, so come in a learn the basics of this very fun game! Starting on Thursday 4/7 we will be starting a Malafaux campaign! Come in and show if you have the stone to master Malafaux!

Classes:

Intro to Embroidery – Sunday 1 till 3pm Students will learn the basics of embroidery, and will take home a hoop, needle, and floss!

The Camino and its Legends and Lore – Wednesday 4/6 7pm-8pm Students will learn about the Camino from Morian. The Way of St James has existed for over a thousand years. It was one of the most important Christian pilgrimages during medieval times, together with Rome and Jerusalem, and a pilgrimage route on which a plenary indulgence could be earned.

Greetings to our new members, Saun and Josh!

No big updates to post notice wise, just please keep an eye on your trash and help us to keep the Haven clean.

Orphan Thanksgiving is tomorrow, please join us, and bring a side dish! Its looking to be a fun group, with some awesome post dinner passing out to movies afterwards.

Saturday is Christmas Tree Hunting Day. Steve and Gene will be heading out at 2 to go cut down the holiday tree, and would love the company of their fellow members.

We are looking for an idea for this years New Years Party. If you have a clever concept, please E-mail us with it.

The Historic Haven Monster Mash Halloween Party, October 31st at 7pm!

We are holding one of our epic Halloween Parties.

This years theme is MONSTERS! Carl will be making cities for monster
members to destroy and decorating the place with the help of Ken, Ruth
will be supplying tables of delicious food, and Steve & Gene will be
providing drinks and bar-tending.

A small portion of last years dinner feast

Prizes will be awarded for best/most creative costume, best city
destroying photo, and sexiest costume.

We will be running monster movies all night, have live music, and of
course running House on Haunted Hill, Munchkin Bites, and S.P.A.N.C.

This is an all nighter, so bring a blanket and crash out with us
watching Monster Movies till early in the AM.
